In September 2008, the Ohio Department of Development sent a request to local economic development organizations regarding a New York company interested in partnering with an Ohio manufacturer to produce teak outdoor furniture. Through relationships developed with local businesses, the Office of Economic Development (OED) contacted Innerwood about this opportunity. Now less than a year later, Innerwood has been awarded the exclusive manufacturing, assembly, and shipping contract for Green Life, LLC.
Green Life owns and markets the Arthur Lauer brand of fine Teak Outdoor Furniture and Accessories. Since 1983, this brand was manufactured in the Hudson Valley in New York. That plant closed in January, and starting in late March Innerwood began accepting the raw lumber, parts and specific equipment used in the manufacturing process and integrating the product line into production. The first products were shipped in late May. The Arthur Lauer brand of teak outdoor furniture is believed to be the only large United States manufactured teak product available on the market today.
Innerwood, based in Miami Township, produces other fine residential and commercial wood products. Founded in 1990, the company relocated in 2006 to a 35,000 square-foot facility, which includes over 22,000 square feet of manufacturing space. In anticipation of growing demand for the Arthur Lauer product line, Innerwood and Green Life have leased an additional 12,000 square feet for warehousing, assembly, and shipping. Initial production includes 32 products with additional products to follow in 2010. Innerwood is planning to add an Arthur Lauer showroom to its existing showroom facility, which currently displays a broad range of house and garage cabinetry, as well as outdoor kitchens. Visit Innerwood's web site for more information on the company and its products.
