On October 19, 2005, Mercy Hospital Clermont broke ground on an $18-million expansion that will add a new three-story medical office building to the hospital campus and significantly improve the current hospital facilities. Enhancements to the hospital will include an expanded Intensive Care Unit (ICU), increased bed capacity, and the addition of private patient rooms.
Mercy Clermont’s expansion will be completed in three phases between 2006 and 2008. The addition of the medical office building is scheduled to be completed in 2006. The building will house 25 physicians and feature outpatient services such as physical, occupational, and speech therapy. The building will be connected to the main hospital by a new three-story addition that will include the main lobby and new visitor elevator.
The second phase of the expansion will begin in 2007 and will feature construction of a new, larger ICU. The new ICU will be constructed on top of the emergency department, a feature designed to enhance patient care by decreasing the distance between the ICU and the emergency department, surgery, and diagnostic services.
The final phase of construction, slated for completion by 2008, will include renovation of the current ICU and the addition of 23 private patient rooms. The hospital has noted increasing demand for such rooms which afford patients and their families greater privacy when making health care decisions.
The hospital’s decision to expand reflects a recognition of anticipated growth in Clermont County as well as a desire to continue improving the quality of care at Mercy Clermont. "We are very excited to begin work on expanding our campus and enhancing the services we provide," said Mark Shugarman, President and CEO of Mercy Clermont. "The new medical office building will help us attract new physicians to the area and provide new services for our patients."
Mercy Clermont has recently received several accolades for the quality of its services. Solucient, a national healthcare information organization, named it one of the 100 Top Performance Improvement Leaders among hospitals nationwide. Mercy Clermont also lead the rankings of quality indicators for the treatment of heart attack, congestive heart failure, and pneumonia in a survey of Greater Cincinnati hospitals.
