Most people have heard of the University of Cincinnati's co-op program. It is world renowned. Did you know that Clermont College, part of the UC university system, has a co-op program? In addition to offering full-time placement for an academic quarter, Clermont College's program works with employers and students who need a part-time co-op position.
The Parallel Program is Clermont College's part-time cooperative education solution for students and employers who need another option besides full-time placement. For employers, this offers flexibility to firms not able to employ a student for 40 hours a week for 12 to 14 weeks. In the Parallel Program, students work no more than 20 hours a week up to a maximum of 200 hours per quarter. Fields of study that participate in the Parallel Program are Accounting, Business Information Technology, Computer Systems Support, Cisco Networking, and Computer Aided Design.
A co-op student is an excellent way to "audition" future full-time employees. Hiring a co-op student is a proven cost-effective method to meet both immediate and long-range human resource needs. Co-op students can perform well on some professional level assignments, thus freeing career employees for advanced responsibilities. The employer's major responsibility is to provide work experience and appropriate supervision that are directly related to the student's field of study, level of knowledge and learning objectives.
Currently, UC Clermont's co-op program has four students needing placement for the winter academic quarter beginning December 29, 2008 through March 27, 2009. These students are in the Computer Aided Design/Drafting program. The curriculum for this program includes tool, welding, and machine design, as well as coursework in CAD software and machining.
